About
Canary is a personal project: a tool that has read all of federal OSHA — the standards, the recordkeeping rules and 279 interpretation letters, 7,220 passages — and finds the exact passage behind a plain-English question, with the citation and a link to the official text. It's free. It isn't a product and nothing here is for sale.
It started because finding the right paragraph took longer than it should. It stays a project because the interesting problems are the honest ones: knowing when the standards don't settle a question, saying which OSHA governs where, and showing the criteria instead of pretending to decide.
Everything it claims is tested. The retrieval suite (595 checks) and the reviewer walkthrough are published on this site, every release is recorded in the Ship Log, and every answer carries the engine version, the corpus date and a link to report an error. What it can't do is on the Known Limitations page.
Next on the bench
The full letter archive back to the 1970s, with a supersession layer so an archived letter can never outvote a current one. Change-tracking against eCFR, so the corpus stops being a snapshot. Then NIOSH. State Plan standards and the consensus standards OSHA incorporates by reference come later, once the permissions and licensing are sorted.
